The Misadventures of Cheri

Mortifying my kids one swimsuit at a time

SW Daybook – October 5, 2009

FOR TODAY…October 5th

Outside my window… sunny and chilly. Supposed to be in the high 60’s all week – can’t complain.

I am thinking… why is it every time I sit down the dogs have to have a cage death match at my feet?

I am thankful for… insurance provided by my hubby’s job.

I am wearing… white shirt, gray capris, socks and hot pink Crocs.

I am remembering… that I need to get off the computer and get ready to see Toy Story & Toy Story 2 in 3d with the fam!

I am going… to be having surgery on my right pointer finger tomorrow morning.

I am reading… “Stepping Up” Bible study by Beth Moore and “Imperial Woman” by Pearl Buck. Beginning to think I’m never going to finish the Buck novel.

I am hoping… that after my surgery there isn’t going to be too much pain.

On my mind… my sweet neighbor who has been a joy for the last 5 1/2 years is moving today. She’ll be about 5 minutes away, but it won’t be the same. I hope the new neighbors are great.

From the learning rooms… getting the kid’s lesson plans written out for the rest of the week so I don’t have to think about anything for a couple of days.

Noticing that… it was COLD this morning. Okay, not Alaska cold -heck, it didn’t even frost – but it was cold for me!

Pondering these words… Beth Moore, “May the rocks never have to cry out in praise in my place.”

From the kitchen… Austin is getting ready to do a science experiment that involves boiling water. ACK!

Around the house… I really need to vacuum!

One of my favorite things… my dogs. Even though they drive me street rat crazy, I really do like them. And probably worry a little too much about their well being.

From my picture journal…

Little girl swingin’ in the swing. One thing about western Washington, when it cools down and starts to rain a bit more, things turn so green it almost hurts your eyes!

SW Daybook: September 28, 2009

FOR TODAY…September 28th

Outside my window…beautiful and sunny, with clouds approaching quickly

I am thinking…that less coffee in the morning has been a good thing

I am thankful for…a husband who backs up our hard drives on the computers regularly

I am wearing…capri sweat pants, t-shirt, Croc flip flops . . . . all pieces from the “do not wear in public” section of my wardrobe

I am remembering…the sound of my laptop as it hit the hardwood floor last night thus rendering the hard drive broken beyond repair

I am going…nowhere today and I love it.

I am reading…“Imperial Woman” by Pearl Buck and just started the “Stepping Up” Bible study by Beth Moore last night with my ladies! Awwwwwwwww yeah!

I am hoping…that I’m not getting sick

On my mind…how nice my hubby was when he realized the hard drive was fried.

From the learning rooms… the kids are doing great this year!

Noticing that…fall is coming whether I like it or not

Pondering these words…the video from Beth Moore last night, “No matter where you are, you don’t have to stay there!”

From the kitchen…nothing but a mess on the counter I really need to get cleaned up.

Around the house…I need to vacuum.

One of my favorite things~the quiet time in the morning before the kids are up.

From my picture journal… nothing. When I broke the hard drive, the pictures I had just taken from our walk in Portland were lost. Thankfully, not much else was. Tyler had just backed up the hard drive that morning!!! How’s that for a God thing???

SW Daybook: September 14, 2009

FOR TODAY…

Outside my window…cloudy, but supposed to clear off and be beautiful for most of the rest of the week.

I am thinking…after the kids’ lack of sleep this weekend, do I really want to wake them up, or just let them sleep?

I am thankful for…a very busy week ahead – it means we are active, healthy and growing.

I am wearing…miracle upon miracles, I am NOT in my pajamas! I’ve showered and am in my non-ghetto sweats and a tank top.

I am remembering… my sweet, sweet mom who passed away on August 20, 2009.

I am creating…uhhhhhh, nothing.

I am going… to the orthodontist, Peet’s coffe and the grocery store today. Oh, and a Sisters In Law event tonight.

I am reading… “Unlikely Disciple” by Kevin Roose. I went to the university he “researched” in this book. I can’t put the thing down.

I am hoping… for this week to not be as stressful as I think it might.

On my mind…my OCD beagle. She’s driving me nuts. She needs her own blog.

From the learning rooms…finished our first week of school last week – all things considered, it went very well.

Noticing that…my son is turning into quite a young man.

Pondering these words…Nothing comes to mind. I’m not that deep.

From the kitchen…nothing. Hence the trip to the grocery store today.

Around the house…the kitchen could be cleaner.

One of my favorite things . . . Tully’s coffee in the morning, with French vanilla Splenda sticks and fat free half and half.

A few plans for the rest of the week: getting my hair cut (don’t EVER let me go seven months between cuts again!), seeing if I need surgery on a finger, going to the Oregon Zoo on Friday . . . . and much, much more.

From my picture journal… the kids on their first day of school last week:

SW Daybook – June 1, 2009

For Today…

Outside my window… insanely gorgeous, sunny weather. It’s been in the 80’s for what seems like weeks.

I am thinking… that I can’t believe I found my best friend and next door neighbor from kindergarten on Facebook.

From the learning rooms… we are done with school on FRIDAY!!! Awwww yeah!

I am thankful for… not being sick anymore. I missed my little bloggie world.

From the kitchen… I’m going to a pickling class next week!

I am wearing… pajamas. It’s the last week of school, what can I say.

I am reading… Trying to read “Wicked” but it’s kind of dark and I’m not really liking it. Will give it a bit longer.

I am hoping… to have a wonderful summer!

I am creating… patchwork fabric composition book covers for the kids’ teachers.

I am praying…
for an easy transition for something I have to keep quiet for the next two weeks (I can tell anyone (except one person), I just can’t broadcast it publicly) – but it’s GREAT news.

Around the house… foster kitties are growing, Austin managed to keep his cast dry for an entire week and we didn’t have our usual spring ant invasion!

One of my favorite things… summer vacation. Always has been. Always will be.

A few plans for the rest of the week… maybe a girls night out tomorrow night, eye doctor appointments, track practice, karate, and did I mention Friday is our last day of school?

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…

A picture of Austin testing for his blue belt. Him passing the test was far overshadowed by his broken finger that sometimes I forget there even was a test. But here he is, giving it his all!!

SW Daybook – May 11, 2009

Outside My Window… gloriously sunny and warm, but it’s not supposed to last long.

I am thinking… that I can’t believe my niece is going to be 18 this week. She was 9 months old when I met her Uncle Tyler.

In the learning room… 16 days of school at home left. Four days of classes. This will be a recurring theme until June 5!

I am thankful for… celebrating Mother’s Day with my mom yesterday!

From the kitchen… Just finished making French toast.

I am wearing… Pajamas and Croc flip-flops

I am creating… Nothing much but am feeling the need to do some sewing.

I am going… to our second of the last Sisters In Law meeting of the summer. We have had a psychologist scheduled to speak for months about the effects of critical incident stress on law enforcement families. And then we just had a Vancouver sergeant shot in the chest a couple of weeks ago. His vest saved his life! It’s amazing how God works everything out. We’ve been getting more responses than usual and are expecting a big turnout.

I am reading… nothing except my Bible in a Year. I’m sure I’ll be reading something else as soon as the school year is over.

I am hoping… the kids won’t get rained out of track tonight.

I am hearing… my husband vacuum under the fridge and under the couch cushions – he’s a keeper!

Around the house… it’s clean! A side benefit of having everyone over for Mother’s Day yesterday. Now if only it could stay that way.

One of my favorite things… the cut lilacs I brought in from the backyard yesterday – they’re smelling up the whole house 🙂

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: running kids here and there. Austin gets to test for his blue belt in karate Friday night!!

A picture thought I’m sharing with you:

Mark Lee (guitar) and David Carr (drums) from Third Day

The Third Day/Brandon Heath/Revive concert was amazing. Probably the best Mother’s Day gift I’ve ever gotten. I’ll post more pictures later – this is all I have time for this morning.

SW Daybook – May 4, 2009

Outside my window…
overcast – but at least it’s warming up and flowers are blooming.

I am thinking…
about how much I wish the school year were over.

From the learning rooms…
see above!

I am thankful for…
my husband asking me to marry him 17 years ago yesterday.

From the kitchen…
going to try Sherry’s Chicken Spaghetti tonight, if I have all the ingredients, which I think I do. And I’m using this recipe in place of the canned soup. I’ve done it before and it’s so easy and so much healthier.

I am reading…
The Message bible in a year. So far, I love it. Even though I started in Judges – lol.

I am hoping…
that the coffee gets done quick because I need some. (I obviously need some because I used “quick” incorrectly – you know things are bad when I neglect my grammar.)

I am creating…
well, more wanting to create a rag rug/chair pad for our porch swing.

I am hearing…
the coffee brewing and the laundry.

Around the house…
things are pretty quiet.

One of my favorite things…
my new Keen shoes I got at the REI sale. I had no clue they were so comfy! Go buy a pair right. now. But only at REI or on their site – the sale is amazing.

A few plans for the rest of the week…
Same old, same old – mostly running the kids here and there. Family night on Wednesday and then on Friday I get my Mother’s Day gift – fourth row seats to see Third Day. Then the Actual Mother’s Day on Sunday. I have a lot to be thankful for this year.

A picture thought I’m sharing with you . . . . .

My new shoes. And, yes, I got red. I’m sick of boring colors!

SW Daybook – April 27, 2009

Outside my window…
the sun is shining gloriously, but I don’t think it’s supposed to stay that way. Hello spring in the Pacific northwest.

I am thinking… about what bible study to do on my own for the summer since this is the last week of “Esther.”

From the learning rooms… six glorious weeks left and we are 95% on schedule. Can I get an amen?

I am thankful for… the things I’ve learned in the Esther study.

From the kitchen… baking pancakes AGAIN. The kids are obsessed with it.

I am wearing… doing the jammies and greasy ponytail at the moment . . . . .

I am reading… The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Jazz Age Stories.

I am hoping… the weather won’t be too nasty at the track tonight so I can walk 3 miles like I did last Friday.

I am creating… I made some cute notecards last night, I want to make a fabric cover for my Bible.

I am praying… to not become like “that.”

Around the house… letting the kids sleep in . . . . even the dogs are quiet.

One of my favorite things… my Bible study ladies.

A few plans for the rest of the week… take kids to track practice, take Austin to small group, karate and an orthodontist appointment, call the dentist because I think I might have an appointment this week I forgot about, all the regular mom duties.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…

I took this in our back yard last week . . . . . then I played around with some of the colors 🙂

SW Daybook – April 20, 2009

For Today…

Outside my window… sunny, beautiful and supposed to get up to 82!

I am thinking… actually reflecting on a very full spiritual weekend. Beth Moore was in town and it was amazing. So many things to think over.

From the learning rooms… despite the beautiful weather, school must go on. The kids aren’t happy.

I am thankful for… this weather!

From the kitchen… probably going to do Papa Murphy’s for dinner.

I am wearing… tank top, shorts and my Croc flip-flops

I am reading… still reading “Traveling Light.”

I am hoping… that the kids like track. They start tonight.

I am creating… not much – too much fun being outside right now.

I am praying… for many things.

Around the house… lookin’ pretty good since I had to prepare for a much welcomed guest this weekend – Tyler’s cousin who came to Beth Moore with me.

One of my favorite things… the dog door Tyler installed. One of the best things to come around in a long, long time.

A few plans for the rest of the week… Tyler has Monday – Thursday off!! That means picnics, a trip to OMSI to see the DaVinci display, and the regular things we have going on.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…

Blurry and out of focus, but this is the best I could do of the dogs playing. Gwen wears Belle out . . . . . . . so glad one plan I had in this life actually worked out.

SW Daybook – April 13, 2009

For Today…

Outside my window… started out sunny but now is cloudy and downright cold.

I am thinking… that I don’t think I like Earl Grey tea.

From the learning rooms… We are on week 29 of 36. My soul rejoiceth.

I am thankful for… an amazing evening out with my husband and kids. I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.

From the kitchen… easy manicotti for dinner!

I am wearing… for once I’m doing this and I’ve actually showered!! Jeans, t-shirt, crocs.

I am reading… Traveling Light by Max Lucado

I am hoping… for it to warm up, but it’s not supposed to until the end of the week.

I am creating… Finished my third rag rug. Am now going to make a rag chair pad for the porch swing.

I am praying… for friends who have so many hurts.

Around the house… hubby got me something I’ve wanted forever – an indoor/outdoor thermometer. I’m a weather nerd.

One of my favorite things… my beagle.

A few plans for the rest of the week… BETH MOORE!!! She’s doing a two day conference in Portland this Friday and Saturday. Tyler’s darling cousin, Kristi, is coming over from Yakima and we’re going together. I don’t know who I’m more excited to see – Beth or Kristi!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you… my latest two rag rugs. The top one is by my side of the bed and the bottom is by Tyler’s. They feel like a little massage when you step on them in the mornings. I need to get better at breaking the color pattern apart. I’ll learn some day – lol.

SW Daybook – March 23, 2009

For Today…

Outside my window… The sun is shining!!!! Sunshine is not guaranteed for spring in the Pacific northwest.

I am thinking… that since it’s spring break, the kids can make their own breakfast.

From the learning rooms… S P R I N G B R E A K

I am thankful for… no matter what the situation, God will take care of me.

From the kitchen… baking brownies from scratch for my son’s small group tonight.

I am wearing… pajamas. No socks or slippers and my feet aren’t freezing 🙂

I am reading… What’s Your God Language by Myra Perrine. Fascinating!

I am hoping… my back will quit hurting. Would probably help if I sat correctly!

I am creating… another rag rug. Tyler wants one by his side of the bed.

I am hearing… Jimmy Neutron and Austin trying new chords on his guitar (he’s obsessed and I think it’s great). Austin has an Ipod Touch and he downloaded a couple of apps that are nothing but guitar chords. Who knew a Touch could also be educational? He probably did, but his mother was clueless.

Around the house… I need to do laundry!

One of my favorite things… hearing my son on the guitar . . . . . . .I think he found something he really loves.

A few plans for the rest of the week… The aunts are coming! The aunts are coming!! My dad’s two sisters from North Carolina will be here tonight for a week. It’s why we’re taking Spring break a week early. Homeschooling can have some suh-weet perks!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…

Austin has been using my camera a lot. He loves taking pictures of the dogs. I’d show you what he took of Belle, but he really wanted to get super-up close pictures and, well, she looks like a concentration camp survivor. Doggie does NOT do closeups well!
